WOYWW 183 - Busy, busy, busy...

I cannot believe it's been so long since I posted... but I have been busy making gifts...

This is a mini friendship book for a dear friend's birthday in January :o)

And I'm being watched over by my new best friends...

Well, actually the centre raven (carrying a star), and the snowy raven (right) are new, but the one on the left is a card I found while searching for stuff for the mini book - and would you believe, the card I found is by the same artist as the snowy raven???

And I found more beauties while rummaging...

Both of these are by a favourite artist Fran and I know I bought them years ago!

I thought this 'obsession' with ravens was new - I've been dreaming of a raven (she's taken me flying over my childhood home a couple of times recently), but obviously I've felt an affinity with this wise and clever creature, for quite a while...

The woman in the picture is called 'Memory' and she wears a small star around her neck...

Like the star the middle raven is carrying in its beak in the pic above, and I've recently learnt the Norse god Odin, kept two ravens Hugin (Thought) and Munin (Memory)...

I don't really know what any of this means... but I feel it means something... and this is where my thoughts travel while I'm making the mini book for my friend...

Can't wait to see what you've all been up to this week... so I'm hopping over to Julia's at Stamping Ground...

With love xxx

very interesting post as ravens are central to so many cultures.

Ravens are incredibly interesting birds, extremely clever too. They symbolizes protection, initiation and healing in some cultures, good fortune in most. Only a few cultures or people through the ages thought of them as a bad omen, most come down on the side of good. It is said that if the Ravens leave the Tower of London then a great misfortune will befall the country. The last time they left was just before the London bombings in WWII. I believe their wings are now clipped and they have someone to look after them! The cards are beautiful and I'm sure your friend will love your book.

Wonderful art on your desk. Love Brenda's explanation of the raven. I think Poe gave him a bad name and it stuck. Poor little ravens

Hi Claire I did the flower quizz - I'm a sunflower!
There are a pair of ravens that regularly check-out our Site - we really hope that one day they will nest in the tower (tho I expect that will upset the jackdaws who have been there for decades!).M

Love the ravens! We had a family of ravens in our yard this summer...Mom brought her 3 babies to my suet feeder every day...they were nearly as big as her & very noisy! Awesome to watch. The natives believe ravens are the reincarnation of loved ones. Thanks for sharing your space!

Lovely to see those again! :)
Yes Ravens have always struck a chord with me too, in fact when I was a child I had quite a magical experience which featured (probably) a large crow, but to me it was, and always will be, a raven.

Love the cards. And what a lively gift for your friend. Ravens are apparently quite clever... Can learn words etc.
