Focus on Life - Week 21

Where do the days go??? Surely, it's only a couple of days since the last Focus on Life???

This week's prompt was Reminisce, as Sally asked,

This week capture what takes you back to moments past
and reminisce a little.

And I knew immediately what photo to take.

Nothing takes me back to my childhood quicker than catching a glimpse of these on my bookshelf...

Chicken Licken is the first book I clearly remember reading all by myself...

I adored Cinderella and learned to tell time with a watch, which came with a figurine of Cinderella in a sky-blue ball dress...

But Snow White and Rose Red and Rumpelstiltskin were my two absolute favourites and I remember knowing all the words, which meant I knew if the person reading to me skipped a page :)

These eight little books have travelled continents with me, been read to and by my children, and maybe one day, will be read by my grandchildren!

I can't wait to see which images evoke special memories for others listed over at Sally's Studio Sublime...

What a sweet memory. I remember coming home from school or on the weekends pulling all my books out and reading them. Sad to say they are all one, my mother was a purger and purged every year, so many memories gone....

I don't have very many of my childhood books left, I do have a few, but I think they were actually my fathers and date back to the 20's... in grade 1 we got a little paper book above our name on the wall for every book we read aloud to our parents at night... I think I took at least 3 books home most nights because I was determined to have the highest pile... I think the teacher just quit adding books after we got to a certain hieght. But I'm sure that's where my love of reading comes from!

Oh, I remember these stories! I loved Cinderella and Snow White and Red Rose was a favorite, too. Thanks for taking me back to those books. Lovely photo!!

Funny, my second choice was a book. It's wonderful for a reader how many memories they can evoke.

How wonderful that you still have these! I would love to have my Nancy Drews and picture books from toddler age. Great sweet post...

It's great that you have these books to look through. I remember so many that I loved as a child, and my daughter's faves as well.

Oh - I love this memory! Books I think have always been a part of my life. I still have books that belonged to mom from when she was a kid. I think your prompt is going to egg me to go home and look for those books and have a good read! Thanks for sharing your memories!

Great thinking - books are perfect! I've just been reading some of my oldies to little one: Beatrix Potter and one of my favs "Lyle and the birthday party" (Lyle is a crocodile, gets jealous that the boy he lives with has a birthday, makes himself sick, ends up in human hospital - hilarity ensues - feels better when he starts helping people, then it ends with his own surprise birthday)

How wonderful that you have the books you learned to read on. Reading is some of my earliest childhood memories. Also my first watch was a Cinderella watch. It came in a glass slipper.

There is one book that I saved from childhood that I had trouble reading to my kids, because the memory of my father reading to me was just too strong. Great memories are made with children's books!

Claire your books are a wonderful keepsake from your childhood. I think it's great that you kept them and want to pass them on to the next generations. I think a love of reading is established early in life.
