IA Challenge - Vintage Photography

Well, this WAS a challenge!!!

I took this photo from the internet (sadly, I cannot remember where I found it...) It's of an Argus camera - it looks rather 1960s to me...

... and attempted a sketch...

Oh my!!

It's all squiffy... and circles are hard enough to draw freehand, but with my left hand!! *sigh*

I guess, the kindest thing I can say, is it does look like a camera, just not a very realistic one...

Still, I am keeping up with my daily sketches, and the whole point of a challenge is to try...

I'm sure there will be a plethora of inspirational interpretations of this week's challenge over at the Inspiration Avenue, so do drop by for a look after Sunday's deadline...

In the meantime, I'll keep sketching, but I think I'll stick to more organic subjects, like this doodle from yesterday evening done while watching the footie on TV...

Wishing you a wonderful Friday, and a fun weekend xxx

Your camera looks great, I actually like the organic-ness of it. That you did it with your other hand is amazing! good going.

I'm impressed that you're sticking with sketching every day - I managed about a week before I gave up. I return every now and then but just can't get excited about doing it every day.....seems too much like work.

Your camera is great - a sketch is to capture the feeling of an item and you totally did that!

I am very impressed with your sketch. I can't draw, so anything that vaguely resembles an image impresses me. But THIS camera is more than a vague resemblance. It is well executed and even more so using your non-dominant hand. You have two thumbs way up from me on this sketch!!

Actually, I love the squishyness of your drawing. Do you know Carla Sonheim and her drawing classes? She often suggests drawing with your non-dominant hand and frankly, when I do her exercises like that one and doing blind contour drawings, I more often than not love the result more than sketches and drawings that I am trying to make look realistic. The other ones have an energy and vibrance that the realistic ones don't possess. So all that to say I do like your camera, it looks alive and ready to go out and take photos all on its own!

I love the effect your drawing has. And that your drew it with your non-dominant hand is amazing!

I like your camera sketch, I'm actually very impressed - I know I couldn't draw anything nearly as good with my left hand!

Your plant sketch is lovely too - I can see that working well as a textile print :)

Bodhi Chicklet said exactly what I was thinking! I tend to try to make things look too realistic and they end up looking, well, BORING! I love the movement in this sketch. Maybe I should try sketching left-handed! You're an inspiration!

I like your "squiffy" camera very much! Who needs a "perfect" drawing of a camera! That's what cameras are for LOL!

I'm impressed it's with your non-dominant hand, too!
